L’attuale capolista della Premier League del Belize ha un nome tutto italiano. O quasi.
Il Napoles FC ha una storia di fondazione molto recente, che incarna perfettamente lo spirito del calcio moderno in Belize: nasce originariamente nel 2020 come un’Academy per lo sviluppo giovanile nel cuore di Belmopan (la capitale), per poi approdare al calcio professionistico beliziano.
Ma perché il Napoli?
The goal was clear: to try to give the team a strong and fascinating identity by choosing the Italian Napoli as a model. The name remained the same, the only change was the spelling in Spanish.
Napoles is trying to inherit from Napoli that attachment to the jersey and the pitch that characterizes the Neapolitan city, and in recent times it has experienced a growth on the field that is really not indifferent.
This year, as said, is temporarily at the top of the national Premier League, and has so far been dethroned by much more popular teams like Verdes and Port Layola (the latter defeated 6-0 just a few days ago).
Recently, Napoles has also opened up to the development of women’s football. A real boom, and there is also a small merit to point out: the original team did not become famous for its male formation, but thanks to the women.
The management has invested heavily in football in the squad, going on to create Napoles FC PWLB, which in a very short time has risen to the forefront of national football and beyond.
A special mention deserves the participation of the women’s team in the UNCAF Interclub Cup, held in Nicaragua.
Because this is the proof that the Italian passion knows no borders. Not even 9,000 kilometers from Naples.
